High Chest. High Class!
What a cabinet! This tall Danish cabinet was designed by Ib Kofod Larsen for Faarup Møbelfabrik Crafted in beautiful rosewood. And not just any rosewood. The dark, almost black grain stands out beautifully against the warm reddish-brown background. A wood grain you can keep looking at.

Typical Danish. Very sixties. And very beautiful.

Mister Kofod Larsen

Ib Kofod-Larsen was one of the great names in Danish mid-century design. His designs are clean and functional, but never boring. He had a great eye for proportions, elegant lines and subtle sculptural details. And just as importantly: in Kofod-Larsen’s designs, the wood was allowed to take centre stage.

You can see that clearly in this cabinet. No unnecessary fuss. The rosewood does all the talking. The slender base, tapered legs and gently curved front rail give this tall piece an elegant and surprisingly light appearance.

Open sesame!

Clean and understated on the outside, a little party on the inside. Behind the four doors you’ll find plenty of storage space with shelves. But things get especially nice in the lower left section. Here you’ll find several shallow wooden inner drawers for smaller items, finished with green felt. Very Danish! In the centre are two wide drawers with beautifully carved integrated handles. The upper doors, on the other hand, feature small and subtle handles. We love the way Kofod-Larsen combined different details without disturbing the calm simplicity of the design.

And take a good look at the interior too. The shape of the inner drawers, their rounded fronts and the carefully made wood joints show that just as much attention was paid to the inside as to the outside. Beautiful inside & out.

Vintage conditie

The cabinet is in good vintage condition. It shows some light signs of use and patina consistent with its age, but overall it has been beautifully preserved. Ands we had the top professionally resprayed with a high-quality cellulose coating. The rosewood still has a wonderful deep colour and the striking, almost graphic grain is a real eye-catcher.

A special piece of Danish design by Ib Kofod-Larsen for Faarup Møbelfabrik. Practical, refined and made in a time when even the inside of a cabinet simply had to look good.
